Last night we attended our Citizenship Ceremony in Brisbane's city hall. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!!! It was fantastic!!! It was an hour long, starting with an aboriginal welcome dance ( see photo below). The Lord Mayor was there along with some other dignitaries (not sure who!!??) and there were several speeches. We then got to stand and repeat the 'pledge of committment' along with 480 other people and they set of party poppers in the hall!! There was a brass band there playing 'waltzing Maltilda' and we sung the national anthem at the end. It was a really lovely evening and we were all given our certificates of citizenship and a plant to plant in our gardens. Afterwards we walked in to town to the main mall and had coffee and cakes at a cafe with some friends who came to support us. We were given some lovely cards and gifts (which we really weren't expecting!). The Aussies made us feel really special. It was a truly wonderful evening. We didn't get home til 11pm and thus we didn't get up til 8am this morning (late for us!!!), so we kept the girls off school for the day. Kevin was in true Aussie form having been made a citizen and turned out a wonderful brekkie cooked on the BBQ this morning.
